This scholarship was established in 2003, by friends of Dan Ryan, to honor his career that spanned more than fifty years as a radio broadcaster in the Mahoning Valley. Beginning at the former WRCN in Warren, he moved to WBBW where he established himself as one of the most popular radio personalities of the “Rock and Roll era.” He later established Youngstown’s most popular radio talk show, also on WBBW which continued until he moved to WKBN Radio in 1984. His program continued on WKBN Radio for over 18 years, ending when he became ill in October of 2002. This scholarship will be given to YSU students majoring in telecommunications, with preference given to students interested in electronic communications, specifically radio broadcasting.
