YSU Students
The Knights of Columbus Immaculata Youngstown Council #274 established a $100,000 scholarship at Youngstown State University.
To be awarded the Knights of Columbus Immaculata Youngstown Council #274 Scholarship, a student must be from a Catholic Parish in Mahoning County, with a preference given to a student of a current or deceased family member of the Knights of Columbus. Any member of a religious order is eligible.
One student from each class rank – freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior – will be awarded the scholarship each academic year. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
“Our Knights of Columbus Council is very much about our community, especially our younger people and their future,” said Dustin Tolson, the Grand Knight of Youngstown Council #274. “Just being able to give back to community members by helping them grow and move forward in their lives is very important to us.”
The Knights of Columbus Youngstown Council #274 was founded in Youngstown, OH, in 1897, and was the first Knights of Columbus Council established in the State of Ohio. Council 274 serves the entire city of Youngstown and is based at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica in Youngstown.
The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic men’s fraternal organization in the world, founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity to bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled, and needy members and their families.
The scholarship funds will be housed at the YSU Foundation. The selections will be made by the scholarship committee of the Knights of Columbus in conjunction with the YSU Foundation.
